Dear Parents and Carers
We have greatly enjoyed our first week back and welcoming in new children, all of whom have settled really well.  It has also been good to have some good weather so that we can get outside more and explore different activities that we can’t do as easily inside.
Today we have enjoyed the trampolines – this gives the children a great opportunity for managing their own shoes.  This is particularly difficult if shoes have laces so if it is possible can we have Velcro fastening shoes please.  If your son/daughter is going to school in September it is vital that they have this skill before they go, so please do encourage this at home, along with managing own coats before the weather gets to the stage where we don’t need them.

You may have noticed on WhatsApp that we have been joined by some little visitors – we had some frogspawn on Monday with a few tadpoles.  Now we have a lot of tadpoles.  We are excited about watching these little creatures grow and develop slowly into froglets (at which point they will go back to their pond).  I will endeavour to keep the WhatsApp updated with growth photos/videos.
This week we began on our numbers and shapes theme.  Many of the children were familiar with circle and number 1.  Thank you to the one child who brought a circle she had found at home.
Next week we move onto the number 2 and rectangles.  Why that shape? – because it is formed with 2 long sides and 2 short sides (something our school leavers will be learning all about).  What can the children find around the house that is rectangular?  How often can they spot the number 2 en route to preschool.  Is there a 2 in their door number or car registration plate?  What shape are the road names at the end of your road (or indeed the number plate on your car).
The older children will be playing a board game involving numbers and shapes.  Our September preschool starters will be talking about emotions, our January starters will be extendng their sentences by discussing what they can see in pictures and our new starters will be showing us if they recognise animal sounds.

Photographs
On Wednesday our photographers will be in.  All children will have portrait photographs taken. Children who are leaving in July will have the opportunity for a group photograph and also individual ‘graduation’ photos.  The turn around for these is very prompt, but the graduation photos will not be distributed until the end of the summer term.

Lunch at preschool
Please could we ask that if your son/daughter does not eat crusts on their bread (which of course they ideally should be encouraged to do) that the crusts be cut off before they are put in lunch boxes.  So much food could go to waste if we didn’t spend time trimming them up.  Thank you.
For any of you who are unaware, we run a sustainability programme at preschool – which includes boxes for paper/card and tins/plastic, a food waste box and a compost bin in the garden.  The children gradually get used to where their waste is deposited.  Perhaps they can help with this at home too.
We extend a very warm welcome to anyone who would like to join Southborough Lane Baptist Church for worship on Sunday morning at 10.30 am (there is a group called Paddlers for preschool children).  There are also other activities going on during the week and on some Sundays.  Do come and join us – we would love to see you.
