Dear Parents and Carers

It has been good to enjoy a week of weather which has not been quite so hot and restricting and the children have relished their outdoor playtime once again.  This week brought us Sports Day – thank you to everyone who supported the event. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.  As a trial in a much smaller premises than we have hitherto been accustomed we felt the whole event went really well – apologies to parents who ended up on small chairs (welcome to staff world!).  The children did so well, especially as some are still only 2 years old.  We are very proud of them.  Thank you, also, to everyone who has supported our sponsored event – we are really grateful to you all.  If anyone still has sponsor money to come in, it would be helpful if this could come in during the next week please so Hannah can get it banked.

In view of Sports Day we felt it was not appropriate to then have children attending small group sessions on the day, so these ones will run over into next week.  We were expecting the Community Dentist in next week so our planned theme for the week is around caring for ourselves and especially our teeth.  However, she will be in on the last Monday of term.

Some news we would like to share

At the end of this term we say goodbye to 2 members of staff:  to Mary who is retiring after 11 years on the Early Learners staff team;  and to Sam who is taking up a full time position in the preschool attached to her children’s school, which will make life much easier for her.  Whilst Sam joined our staff team much later, we feel like she has been with us for ever.  Both will be hugely missed.  We wish them both well in their respective, and very different, futures and I want to thank them for their dedication to our preschool(s) which has helped to make Phoenix what it is today.  Sam will, in fact, be departing on Friday next week as she had a previously arranged holiday.  They may be leaving the staff team on the ground, but I am certain we will continue to see them as part of our staff friendship group for many years to come.  Bless you both.

There are some revisions to our snack list:

We have tried to put the children’s ‘favourites’ into our last week.

Last Day

Our end of term presentation will take place in the church sanctuary at Petts Wood Methodist Church on Friday 17 July at 9.30.  Everyone is invited – although there may be standing room only as the church is also much smaller to the one we had at Christmas.  We would love to see everyone.  All children are invited to come along for the morning and stay on for our party afterwards.  We are also planning refreshments and a chat for parents/carers in the refereshment area at the front of the church following the presentation.  All children participating in the event should arrive at our usual time of 9am please at Lakeswood Hall.  Parents/carers may then move into the church ready for the presentation.

Please remember that this day finishes at 12 noon after which you are invited to join Lauren for a picnic in Petts Wood Memorial Gardens.
