Dear Parents and Carers

Wow!  What a week!  It has been difficult for the children being inside so much and less active than usual, but very necessary.  Thank you so much to parents who kindly loaned us fans to assist with temperature control and thank you to everyone for working with us..  Next week, according to the Met Office reports that I receive, we are returning to “normal” summer weather, which may still be hot but not unbearably so.  Hours will return to normal and the usual sun protection cream, hats, covered shoulders and socks will be required please.

We will continue with looking at how to keep ourselves safe at the beach by looking at clothing.   Our older children will be rehearsing for our end of term presentation, our September starters will be showing us their increased understanding of ‘how’ and why’ qiuestions; our January starters will be extending their vocabulary when looking at what we do with body parts such as eyes and ears;  and our April starters will be showing us how well they can follow instructions.

Parents’ Evening

Is on Monday for the parents of children staying on with PEL in September.  There are still bookings available if you haven’t booked in yet.

Sports Day

.This will now be on Thursday 2 July and we look forward to everyone joining us as per last week’s email.  The use of our hall for this activity is very much experimental and apologies for limiting parent/carer attendance due to liimited space.  Please ensure children come appropriately dressed for the occasion – no dressing up clothing or shoes please.

Measles

Once again we have had a message from Bromley Health that easles is currently circulating in Southeast London and it is a highly infectious illness, but it can usually be prevented through vaccination.

Please be alert of the signs and symptoms of measles in children. These symptoms include:

  • a high temperature
  • a runny or blocked nose
  • sneezing or coughing
  • red, sore or watery eyes
  • small white spots inside the mouth
  • a rash, which usually starts on the face or behind the ears before spreading to the rest of the body

The rash may appear red or brown on white skin and may be harder to see on brown or black skin.

If a child develops symptoms, please keep them at home and seek medical support by contacting their GP or NHS 111,  in the first instance. Please advise them to phone ahead before attending a GP surgery, urgent treatment centre or hospital, so arrangements can be made to reduce the risk of passing measles on to others.

Please also check your child’s vaccination record. Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection against measles. If you are unsure whether your child has received both doses, you can contact your GP practice.

If you are looking for something to do together as a family, Family Fun @4 is a great one to try! It is our relaxed ‘Messy Church’ style service with crafts, games, a short Bible story, and then we finish by sharing a simple meal together.  It runs on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4pm (hence the name!) which means it’s on this Sunday! We would love to see you there so feel free to just turn up or get in touch with Ginia if you have any questions.

Wishing you all a good weekend, however you are managing the last of the heatwave.
